Filling You in on the Last 5

Days.

Last week ended a test of blogging – a fresh page everyday, Monday-Friday. Test was successful, that is do-able, confirmed. Unfortunately it was derailed Thursday, when my computer melted and that took proiority (back up running by Friday night). Still.

This was Friday night.

Friday nights often look like this; I just can’t talk anymore, and have to be still and quiet.

That’s next week’s blog on paper.

One of those posts is titled, “The Rhythm of a Week“, because I think I figured it out. And according to it, there’s about 10 days left in 2013, get going.

Saturday hockey game.

The Marlies defeated the someone, and there were lots of laughs.

I know! Blue! Not black.

Been evolving my look. This weekend I peppered my wardrobe with a few Forever 21 sweaters.

The key to cheap clothing: seam-ripper out the zillion tags, trim the ton of loose threads, and forget washing it.

can’t keep showing up to stuff in jeans and combat boots (even though it’s a very functional, and therefore productive outfit).

Basically though, I’m just girly-fing that look…

… they’re still boots, but with heels, but they’re sneaker heel, like that.

I have got to get planning this years 3rd Annual Keri’s Christmas Extravaganza.

Last year was this, $3,200 in total prizes.

Never again so many prizes, toooo much logistically. Here’s the link, in last year’s video I’d been awake for 50+ hours.

This year I’m thinking one big prize, the end. Leave what you’d wish to win in the comments. I’ve always wanted to give away a car for a week.

Next footage to be edited.

And Niki is swooping in to freshen my hair tomorrow xo, before I leave for the LA Auto Show Tuesday.

Thanks Brennen Demelo Studios.

Have a strong start to your week, and see you online.

Polishing a Blog Looks like This

Endless spreadsheets and <a href> tags.

I’d estimate this blog needs about 25 hours of polishing, to complete this website rennovation.

Notice how the site is now wider ? To accommodate 640-wide photos in all the posts.

But a wider site, means all-new headers have to be created.

I threw a few together, to test the header randomizer.

Oh wait – this way I’ll never forget…. KeriBlog Header Size = 990 x 260

Dumped 35 55 links into the link randomizer.

Look top right. It changes on refresh, and the links lead to posts I quite like.

Looking forward to creating the sidebar, what I think is the essence of a blog. That’s next.

Another great blog work session, thanks Andy, and if you need WordPress anything, call him.

Happy May 24

Staying in the city during the holidays is the best, because everyone leaves.

Not sure about the design choice of the stage; so angular when everything else is curvy.

This is City Hall’s recent renovation; remember it had that little garden area off to the right) #BenefitOfBlogging I also guarded an event there in 2008

Went to the movies! A bi-annual occurrence. Second 3D movie ever.

It was IronMan 3, and maybe the best movie I’ve seen in years.

What am I wearing? Not jogging pants, at least.

It’s a lazy day today. After I hit publish, I have to polish next week’s column (about towing things), then I’m back on my mini-break from online.

Really liking this Monday – Friday publishing schedule I’ve been gravitating toward; going to keep moving KeriBlog in that direction.

Speaking of direction, had a great coffee with my lawyer, Martin. I’ve introduced you before.

When I started all this online stuff back in 2007, I took it a bit more seriously than most; still probably do.

I’m very aware of the weight of what I post online.  For example, all ‘Canadian Explorer’ episodes are set to royalty free music; I always get on-camera acknowledgement and permission from the stranger I just filmed, they know it will be published on the internet; this time Martin helped out with contract stuff, because I have an employee now, so how do I properly paperwork that? Like that.

We’ve been a pair for WOAH just did the math on that… 5 years now. NICE.

Above is a collage I made to celebrate OOK’s 3rd birthday April 2011.

Next week I’ve got Alberta to tell you about; made it to the Toronto Sun today for the first time; things are really starting to fall into a rhythm with Charlotte and I; armoured car shopping; it’s the 6th year of my cycling team; off to Oregon soon with Acura; and I think I may have invented the thing of all things yeaterday, a solution of epic proportions.

If it works, I’m going to link back to this paragraph, and it’ll be like woah, how’d you stay so calm Keri… it’s that good an idea. First time I’ve ever blogged the word ‘epic’.

kk enjoy the second half of May TwoFour!!
Weather couldn’t be better EH.

I've Created Something Unsustainable

I’m now writing 5 auto articles / week – 1 column, 1 review, 3 news stories.

(this is considered a reasonable number by auto journalists standards, who probably have to put in less research time than me)

But today for example… I liked my column and want to show you (chided pedestrians again ha), but it’s now 10:51pm, and my to-do list and omg guys, it’s all really starting to click, but it’s so many spinning plates in the air…

Then I look at my computer, and I just want to not be on a computer anymore, and so here sits my poor blog.

The kicker is, and this part eats at me, is it’s not the content creation that’s the problem. I have like, 40 half-drafted posts of things I want to tell you. It’s the publishing time; the hours linking things up / upload / tag / check facts / file management / create / AND.

I said it aloud for the first time today:

I dream of attaching some photos to an email, writing a few lines of text, then I get back a link to a drafted blog post awaiting my polish, hit publish.

And that my last 400 posts magically become properly tagged, because they are not. And I have a regularly-scheduled newsletter, and my advertising revenue plan-of-action is put into motion. I dream of having a set slot of time each day, to hang out on FB and Twitter, to invest in deeper conversations that continue over time.

I could type 3,000 words easy on this, I’ll stop.

I think, with help, I could update this blog with 3 unique posts a day, one of which is an edited video.

A video a day.

I’ve done it a few times over the years; that’s a 24-hour schedule to pull that off; unsustainable. The longest I did it was 3 weeks at the Olympics, then 4 weeks recovery time.

But it’s always been about videos, I think that’s where I excel. That’s why I started with videos in 2007. No too soon, blogs are it? Okay now I have a blog. More writing, journalist? Okay got it sort of figured out. But it’s always been to get to video.

Something has to change though, this pace is too gruelling. And this pace doesn’t age well, and I should probably dedicate effort to learning to eat properly and get fit. Because if not, I won’t be able to keep up. Plus imagine the video, “hey I’m here shifting the all-new VW Jetta *shift, back of arms wobbles*

kk I’m done thanks for listening, and for always checking in.

It means more than you realize.

Love,
Keri
