Oh No Guys – my Blog is About to Break

On all 2,272 posts the photos are going to go missing.

I just went to my Picasa page and there was the news.

The Problem

  • All my blog photos are hosted by Google’s Picasa, then I embed each into each a post
  • Google is shutting down Picasa, and moving everything to Google Photos
  • Picasa will no longer be supported, so unsure what will happen with the embed code

Embed code looks like this:

<ahref=”https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/dBhKKCvpaV8NZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite”><img src=”https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ie4RbI7KFlo/VsJqRSYRSjI/AAAAAAAAha8/764X0Qsp_Vs/s640-Ic42/IMG_1416.JPG” height=”640″ width=”640″ /></a>

The code means: insert here, this photo, from this album, in these dimensions

When I read the news I sat like this,  not moving for a good 12 minutes.

Stomach sunk and not blinking, my mind racing. This is a big problem that can’t be ignored or pushed off.

Freaking.

The $15 million in cars will disappear.

My sidebar is toast.

All the mini-blogs will break:

BloggingAboutFood.com
IAmNotAHippie.com
SmartenUpInternet.com (security)

All that time, care and attention I invested…

1 – the chance embed code will still be supported is small – there can’t be many of us who use it, or it’d have got a mention

2 – the desktop application will be gone too

3 – changes take affect May 16, 2016

The Solution

  • Google Photos will respond kindly to my passionate & polite letter
  • sure, a script can be written and things moved from one server to another, if/then statements installed…  but with what extra time? By whom? How much will that cost?
  • practice un-attachment and let the blog break, then cease to exist

Any ideas leave in the comments please.

Send good luck please!

Coming Back to Life

The fever broke, and I’m almost fully back to my regular self.  It’s legendary how sick I sometimes get, there’s a photo around here hang on….. yup, here.

And the tiny amount writer’s block that came with it has dissapated (thankfully it wasn’t a full blown block, that’s only happened once, I wouldn’t wish that feeling on anyone.)

A week with this 2016 Cadillac Escalade helped.

No really – I was so into this vehicle.

Even watched a movie in it.

This yesterday helped too – here I am tossing a truck around for Motoring TV’s new intro.

Can’t wait to see the final edit, hope it all makes it.

I have deadlines this week!  It’s started up again… the first piece will publish next Tuesday at this new outlet I write for that I haven’t told you about yet, and the other next week maybe?  Not sure?  Guess that’s the nature of freelance: the paper was regular and immediate, so’s blogging, but freelance is up to someone else.

It feels good to type again, and blogging today was its usual fun.  Maintaining a blog for so many years, it’s …. hard to describe…. the headspace, the constantly-documenting mind frame…. oh I love it, but it can get weird sometimes…

Have a million cars to blog (okay maybe 45) and as much security stuff, and I can sense a writing rhythm establishing itself…. feels for the first time since quitting my job (7 weeks) that things are straightening and settling… prepare for takeoff…

Thanks for always checking in.

xo Keri

40 Thumbnails: Bet 1 gets a Laugh, 1 gets a Hmmm..

They’re thumbnails of random blog posts.

They’re not clickable sorry, to find the real post you’ll have to search.

The new blog theme will make it easier to find stuff. Got it picked out, it’s like this one but refreshed, updated. With a better mobile version… considering forcing the desktop view…

Think the colour theme will be green and gray with classic blue links.

Above top right though.

Below – the Pressing Play post needs a photo #p

I used to think this was a good idea.

Use my New Mobile Site Like This Please

As you probably know, Google recently implemented a new rule that penalizes websites that are not optimized for mobile (for more info, read Casie’s post here.)

It wasn’t that I missed the deadline, I was early actually. It’s that on your phone, KeriBlog.com now looks like this.

From a colourful fun land to bland grey box time.

What do I always say – a sidebar is the essence of a blog – and now it’s gone. Despite this blog’s content being bright and cheerful, it looks opposite. Go search for something and get depressed too. And because mobile is quickly overtaking laptop, this paragraph was typed with my head hanging all low and sad.

It’s because I never once set a featured image for a post, all 2,000 posts, so no way can I fix this.

So please scroll to the bottom of my blog
and choose “Switch to Desktop Version”

Then instead of looking like the “Before” picture, it will look like this:
