My Slickest Filming System Yet

It’s a GoPro Hero 3 Silver Edition.

The camera has WiFi, which talks to the app on my phone, which I use to preview and control the camera, come ON.

It’s my first GoPro. My buddy lent me his, when I drove shifter karts in the fall, but that’s it (that’s a Samsung Galaxy III, and my first Android. Thanks again, TELUS)

The app is what makes it amazing, look:

  1. – so many camera controls. The LED one is a favourite
  2. – delete files from SD card…
  3. – … and check the card’s capacity

Been dreaming about something like this since ’07. Because this, plus my iPhone, MacBook Air 11″, and I’m done. Even 2 years ago, it was 20 lbs on my back.

New electronics smell so good, eh.

This might be some of the first footage like this in Canada.

This camera isn’t available here yet, the app came out November 12th, and below is the morning of the 13th, when I drove around that ice.

First video will be, “Ice Driving – Proving Winter Tires Work”. I’ll post it Wednesday.

CADA Partners with Sun Media

I was sent to cover the new partnership between Sun Media and CADACanadian Automobile Dealers Association.

(read it online)

Very basically – if you own a new car dealership, you must be a member of CADA.

This was a big deal; this handshake marks the first time in CADA’s 71-year history, that the organization has an outlet to reach the public.

They’re excited to give 24hrs readers a behind-the-scenes look at dealerships!

That’s CADA CEO and president Rick Gauthier, and Sun Media’s Tony Lepera, senior national sales executive.

Aside:

It was a small auto section for the newspaper this week, so above, plus my column and a news piece I wrote, and tada…

… that’s me writing 75% of this week’s ‘Your Autonet.’

(when I picked up the paper Wednesday morning, I freaked.

Something like, “omg there’s another one, wait WOAH WHAT noooo YES omg and stomach and yesssss so into this printed thing…)

The Last Week Looked Like This

I had an excellent “hat hair” day.

Drove those cars, around that rink.

Note my new camera, a GoPro Hero 3. I have another post drafted just about it, it’s that cool.

Packed in a LOT this week.  I’m a bit behind on everything, definitely email, which I am OCDing a little out about.

Last Friday’s horoscope.  Luckily, I didn’t see this till 9pm.

And it really was that good a day. 5 huge things happened to me last Friday.

This week’s flowers.

I like how they will open up; it helps to mark the passage of time.

One of my best signatures in a while. When I redo my sidebar art, I’m going to replace the existing one, with this.

Went to the Yorkdale Mall grand opening party.  They said they’re poised to do over one billion in 2013, and if they do, that will be the most ever in North America.

Saw the new Tesla store.

12,000 people bought one, sight unseen :O

Specifically, I was there for the new TELUS flagship store opening. It’s beautiful, but I’ll show you in another post, because I also spoke with them this afternoon about security stuff, and I’m going to put it all together.

This is an Emulator.

Rode the train.

To pick up this week’s car, a Nissan Juke.

Look closer… it’s actually a 4-door, neat, eh.

Aaaaand this is me, just before hitting publish on this post.

Shutting down now, no more internet till tomorrow. A walk, then a beer and last night’s ‘The Office’, betcha I don’t see 11pm.

Have a great start to your weekend, TTYT

I Finally Built MegaCurtain

It’s been on my to-do list, since as I moved in mid-May (click here to see the ‘Before’)

MegaCurtain serves 4 purposes:

  1. draws the eye up, creating the illusion of height
  2. dampens noise
  3. hides the recycling
  4. adds beauty

I love sewing, always have.  That link leads to a quilt I made.

One time in university, I gave our living room a makeover; drapes, cushions, and re-covered the couch into a replica of Chairry, from ‘PeeWee’s Playhouse’.

Used the same sewing machine, seen above.

MegaCurtain was a lot of material to work with, no way did I hem it; not dedicating my limited spare time to that.

Visiting Unionville is like Visiting Olden Times

When I picked up the 2013 Honda Accord in Markham on Monday, I decided to stop by Unionville.

Just north of the Toronto, it’s a fast, 25-minute highway drive from right downtown, easy.  Good destination if you want to escape the city for an afternoon lunch and walk.

This is Main Street, Unionville, which is 218 years old.

I know all this because I almost moved here last summer. I was disenchanted with the city, and this is the opposite of downtown.

I decided I was going to live above a rich person’s coach house, found a real estate agent, who found me a coach house, that’s how close I came.

Here’s the most interesting part of this area.

Back in the wild west days of the interent, laste ’90s early ’00s, just north of Unvionville around ‘Too Good Pond’, used to be a collection of people who were internet pioneers, and had their own, off-the-grid ISP.

Here’s the Unionville wiki, go, for an afternoon of olden times (that’d make a good tagline).
