The Studio* Lives!

MOBILITY. I AM SO HAPPY. YES I AM YELLING.

5 months without a car, longest stretch in a decade+, and it was really getting to me. Genuinely, it was making me down.

Then two weeks ago when I was on a roof looking out, and it hit me, “I can’t get to any of that”. And I’m used to being able to get to that, designed my life around being able to get to that, you know?

BEHOLD!!

Check out the keyed entry.

The odometer readout is more for me than you, to document. Miles though, funny eh… The Canadian Explorer drove an American car, shhhhh.

I can’t turn on radio though, I’m being defeated by the anti-theft system.

You can’t see the display to enter the code to turn on the radio.  It’s my new game: you get two tries then it locks for an hour.  It’s possible this is impossible to win, because the radio might no longer works.  Half the windows don’t go down.  No one knows.

Funny I posted the radio security code online eh, not for the first time either.  Security is relative.

Driving home.

This happy face is brought to you by Claus of Frontenac AutoBody in Kingston, Ontario.

Remember when it all started, my car broke down and I left it under a cel tower in Kingston?

I got news last week Claus and his gang had been tinkering, and YES got it up and running again YES Claus YES Frontenac AutoBody.  And another YES to you for not having a website, and making me link to the YellowPages ahaha for real.

Their specialty is making  high-end cars in wrecks, look like they never were.  As well as Extreme Studio Maintenance.  Actually, if you smashed your pretty car here in Toronto, I’d flat bed it here.

For those of you just meeting me, ‘The Studio’ is my car, which was an integral part of my show, The Canadian Explorer, which I will explain further here, in song.

My Last 24 Hours

Guys woah, until it’s ALL GONE, all of it, you don’t realize how reliant you are on electronic communication until you literally have none.

I went to 2 McDonald’s and a Starbucks, I tried my guts out to get this online… coming soon PROPER TOOLS: an iPhone I can tether to an Air, a laptop that’s just my size.

Regarding my new site well, I’ve been building it in my imagination for 2 years, and it’s as good.  The unveiling is later this week, and, maybe my favourite news, The Canadian Explorer is finally getting the home it deserves.

Here’s my home for the next two months.

My trunk in the GLI.

I have a lot of purging to do, still. You have to be ruthless I’ve learned.

And the video ‘I Own Only One Trunk’ well, is still unedited, there’s been no time… it’s a rhythm I still haven’t found yet, but I’m getting closer.

I’m excited to edit that one, I had a lot of fun with The Emporium, the whole experience, and I have more to say about the experience, which was kinda weird.

Here is your clue:

Think like me, there’s more than enough information here to reveal its location, think like a spy…

I’ll update this by the day’s end to reveal how and where, good luck!!

(I’m driving a Jetta GLI )

UPDATE:

I gave you the art’s location through…. EXIF data – the information that comes attached to a photo when you have your GPS turned on and take a photo.

Click here to see where I uploaded the photo to Google, look on the right, there’s a map pinpointing where the photo was taken.

Here’s a closer look at geo-location data that came from the photo:

I leave my turned off, always, and suggest you do too before posting a photo online.

Smarten Up, Internet.

I've Been Car-less For 2 Weeks Now

Here lies the studio beneath my buddies cel tower. Not putting a RIP anywhere, not giving up hope.

Two weeks ago the horn started going off by itself. Like, three times a minute. I’d drive past people with both hands in the air, smiling while it honked at them.

Halfway to my destination it started to stutter, and I could see the electricity arcing under the steering wheel.

Swapped some fuses around, and broke one with my knife, which is normally used to open the glovebox.  It’s all class around here.  The passenger windows don’t go down, which really highlights the exhaust leak.

Much as I like adventure, this happening is no longer funny.  Plus I’m out of tows.

When I do get new car, I’d consider another VW.  I was ridiculously hard on this thing, and it always performed.  The heater is still really hot.  And the ergonomics, ahhhhh yes to those.

CAA to the rescue.

If you’re driving without CAA, I’m shaking my head at you right now.

The average tow costs minimum $100, annual membership isn’t much more than that, and I’ve never met a CAA driver I didn’t like. And I’ve met many.

Then Suzy came and rescued me roadside, complete with a hot homemade meal.

My bff is better than your bff.

This is the longest I’ve been without a car in 10+ years.

Le sigh.

I Haven't Talked Since Friday

Right now it’s Sunday 4pm.

I was last heard from Friday at 5:30pm, and have been silent ever since.

Tweeted this Saturday, because it was true.

Nothing horrible happened to me, I’m okay.

I wouldn’t call it the best week I ever had, and it was maybe my worst Summer Solstice, the ‘getting paid to blog’ scenario has me exasperated….. I don’t know, just felt like being quiet and daydreaming and imagining a lot, so I did.

I went for a Morning Drive both days.

Finished two books.

Queen and Country by Greg Rucka
Fatal System Error by Joseph Menn

Thought deeply. Which means I sat a lot with my hand over my mouth, that’s my thinking position.  Made tons of notes.

Staying like this till I wake up tomorrow, then it’s back to normal, ttythen :)
