Hosting Canada’s Largest Undergrad Tech Conference

This weekend was the 12th Annual CUTC.ca, and Casie and I hosted the event at University of Toronto.

These kids were great; all on their own volition they organized, travelled and paid their way. Pretty sure this group is indeed our future.

Introducing your hosts!

And THAT is my very own personal QR Code boom boom.

They made it for me and put it on the back of my badge, I always wanted one.  I’ve been preoccupied with QR codes since ’08, because I blogged about them over at Canadian Explorer then, ahhh the benefit of having a blog.

If you scan it it’ll kick your phone right over to here, my blog.

Non-nerds: QR Codes (quick response) are elaborate bar codes that hold a ridiculous amount of information, like a small book. They’ve been in wide use in Europe and especially Japan, and are finally making their way here. Here’s the Wiki page.

During lunch we found a video game area and settled into play our respecitve favourite games: Casie dancing, me Call of Duty.

I should really get and start using a proper camera huh.

Like Casie’s Olympus, which captured this moment of me finally meeting Adam and  Adil (below) of MyCityLives.com

They’re doing awesome things combining online video and maps,  you gotta check out their site – “you discover and share videos around your location on culture, art and entertainment”.

What’s this park like?  Now I’m watching a video educating me, this is good… like that.

From May 2011

Thanks for having us, CUTC.ca, and congratulations everyone on a successful conference!

Such a Nice Saturday! This is My Face!

Hi!

Finally some sun this week eh, least it came on the weekend.  Buds are out on the trees now – proof of spring.

And isn’t this parking spot confusing?

I didn’t get a ticket, , it’s on Bathhurst and Niagara, now you know.

I’m blogging here while this song is jammed in my ears, then going to kick around downtown this afternoon.

Went to a Chilean Wine Tasting at the Spoke Club Tuesday, hosted by Notable TV. They’re soon launching in multiple Canadian cities, and if you live there, go attend their events, they’re great.

There’s footage of me saying something like that, “I like these things because it’s a good crowd, no douche bags”. I probably shouldn’t go on camera after tasting wine on an empty stomach.

It’s Pam, Casie and Karly! Always good seeing you, ladies.  Here’s Casie’s (better) blog post about the event.

Then we snuck out, Irish Goodbye as she calls it.

In other news, next weekend we’re hosting CUTC – the Canadian Undergraduate Technology Conference, pumped.  This crowd will like my Skynet jokes, ha.

And that’s right, thought computing!  It is the future, you heard it here first.

You’ve heard me go on and on about it over the years…. like in My 2012 Prediction and other times when I’ve blogged about Canadian company InteraXon… one of the world’s leading thought-control-computing companies.

They were at the Olympics last year, fast forward to 0:43 below and I’ll explain them a bit.

It’s UFC day!

I’ve had it in my calendar forEVER. Definitely more excited for this than yesterday’s wedding.

The best part won’t be the actual event, it’ll be the aftermath…. everyone hopped up on testosterone and adrenaline, rolling outta there thinking they’re GSP… the city’s gonna be nuts tonight.

Kay getting offline now, TTYL!

Have a great night

Doug Makes You Younger

Last week I met Doug owner of Male Esthetics Spa via Casie (thanks again missy).

Doug recently opened a spa and kindly invited me in, and scrubbed all my dead skin off.  But here’s the best part – the mini-facial.

I’ve never been a spa girl, I’ve maybe been a handful of times ever, and am just reluctant to believe any of it, but Doug changed all that because after, I swear to you, I had younger looking skin.  Especially around the eyes, that very important area.

Now Doug’s spa, Male Esthetics, is just that – specifically for males.  Neat, eh?  Like we talked about, males get the short end of the stick because the beauty and spa industry is so female-centric.

He’s changing all that, because as he said, boys have different skin, different hair patterns, different attention required.  Everyday his goal is, “to be empathatic to men because the industry caters to women”. And he will not feminize you, so no worries boys.

He was the first male ever to graduate from his school in Ottawa, writes for spa magazines and is in Vegas teaching right now.

One of his passions is feet and reflexology, which I didn’t know much about till he told me, look at this:

We have…. 72 000 nerve endings in our feet what?!

In fact, feet are much more important than we realize, and in Germany they take it so seriously that, get this, the government covers a bi-annual pedicure.

Doug did something to my feet and when we were done I said, “I feel weird and unusual, what is this?” and he replied he’d used some calming pressure points to relax me.

Women are most welcome too, and as he pointed out, “it’s kinda neat for a girl to have a guy down at her feet doing their pedicure, no?”  ;)

Off you go gentlemen, call Doug; we girls like feeling soft skin, too. 647 344 1825, Yonge and Davisville.

Yesterday I Woke Up With Givenchy

Because yesterday I started my day in Sephora on Bloor before they opened, how giglala is _that_.  Casie and I decided very.

Givenchy has foryaed into makeup, available exclusively at Sephora.

Few things I learned ladies:

– apply eye shadow with a sponge for better colour depth

– coral is the in colour this spring

– lip liner #3 pencil is the one you want, it’s their most neutral

All these years online and you’ve rarely seen me in makeup, never been my thing.  But mascara, that is SO my thing.  It’d be my desert island pick.

Their brush is a ball what?!  Gives a “panoramic effect”, can’t wait to try it.  Even got it in… blue yesssss.

Thank you again, Givenchy!

A BFF Visit

Suzy and I have been friends for 10+ years. Here we are in December.

If you are ever my guest I will pickup supplies that look like this, then arrange them in a pleasing fashion. No I won’t cook for you.

She’s a professional photographer, also all-self-taught, and I cannot wait till you see the slideshow I’m putting together of our shoot Saturday night that we so efficiently pumped out.

She got some great ones of Casie, too.

The three of us were walking home, Suzy’s lagging behind, “what are you doing back there?” and her reply, “posting to Tumblr” and I look back and her smirk said, “two big city bloggers huh, who’s winning right now…”

Ahaha YES lady, everything is a competition isn’t it?!  We used to have a regular one called, “Whose Fridge is Cleaner”.  I usually won, but have an unfair advantage.
