Less Than 6 Weeks Left of 2014

Didn’t this year feel faster than any other year, by a lot?

Last two days was a lot of Life Admin, not a lot of writing, except the admin supports the writing, and is SO boring, but check check all done.

Lined up the next couple columns (next week has been on my to-do list forever: Talking to Designers), and got a neat new project off the ground yesterday, think you’ll like, I really do; coming in a couple weeks.

Oh and this week’s car is a 2014 Honda Civic, forgot to post that. Manual too!

Always liked the Civic, you can’t go wrong buying this car.

If you can, get the Si.

Went downtown TWICE this week, think that’s a total of 6 times since July 25th.

Still don’t miss it. Actually, I recently parked on the street outside my old place, rolled down the windows and sat in it for a bit.

Felt so grateful to have my house. Took me 1.5 years to escape the city.

While downtown, went on my bi-yearly hoodie buying trip.

Bought both.

Then took myself to dinner at what I remembered as my favourite meatballs, but wasn’t the same, that’ll be the last time.

Went to a beautiful wedding.

I wore all black obviously.

This happened!

Fondue from scratch.

Note the 2 shadows yup, I fed 3 people at the same time. Okay, mostly I just cut up bread and melted cheese, but it involved both heat, and a recipe, so counts.

Got this house project off and running.

That’s a quilt I made years ago, right now it’s being stipled with fluorescent thread. Then it’ll become the cushion for that – best seat in the house – if you can figure out how to get up there, you can hang.

New headers.

The moment I kicked the carpet open was a big one, meant I didn’t have to clean anymore.

I’ll leave you with me on the train.

I walk and public transport more often than I document. A well-rounded auto journalist.

This weekend I have to get my nails done and house in order, leaving for the LA Auto Show early Monday morning, for the week. Maybe attend a party and probably sleep in on Sunday.

Have a great weekend xo

Back Up & Running on Popsicle Sticks

Sorry again for the interruption in service, plans are in place to complete the cleanup this weekend. But between that and 4 newspaper deadlines this week, ya, woah.

***

I definitely don’t live in the city anymore.

Yellow is a never.

Discovered a new favourite car, below.

Can you tell what it is? It’ll get a proper post next week.

How my neighbour calls on me.

The. Best.

And I’m pleased to report I can now offer guests a place to sit. Look, a couch. Took 3 months and tada. Also note the mirror has returned.

It’s casino weather now.

Waste of a good photo opportunity eh, because whose head is big enough to make this funny?

And finally I made it inside the 400 Flea Market, been on my list for 10 years.

It was okay, I’ve been to better, I’m a flea market connoisseur.

Got this new hat there, $7 (OEMs: send me your hats)

Editing last Sunday, going to try to again this one, I love love video editing.

And with that I’m out.

Deadlines done, inbox is zeroed, and I’m off to make up for last night, Thursday night, which is always the best night of the week except yesterday’s, which was opposite.

Have a great weekend TTY Monday xo

You Come for Cars, I Give you Laundry

I know guys *hangs head*

But I had 7 machines going at once! Meh, I know, still. Nor do you care about my favourite tiny towel.

If we’re just meeting: I used to live in a condo in downtown Toronto, bought a house on July 25, and never went back.

It’s a cottage I winterized into a house, and have been living in a construction zone since. I’m like a squatter with a mortgage. Blog tag = house

WAIT. I can actually car-ify this post..

The laundry arrived in a 2015 Subaru WRX, whose trunk will hold 7 loads.

Oh that mirror I had built?

It arrived on Friday, and when it was installed I got so excited my head hurt.

Then on Sunday, it fell off the wall HOW lucky I was home.

When the mirror guys came to retrieve it, he said, “I’ve been installing mirrors for 25 years, and never seen this happen.” This stuff always happens to me.

So lucky I was home. Never mind the massive amount of bad luck it would’ve brought, but it would’ve smashed into this.

Last week a trade was standing in the above, he stopped mid-sentenace, looked around with widening eyes:

Him – wait, you are _currently_ living here?
Me – this is a palace compared to where I’ve been. I slept on an air mattress for 2 months.

But I’m tired of it, tired of my jogging pants, you probably are too, but the end is so close guys… a little more electrical work, build my couch, unroll my carpet, then all I have to do is live in it, easy.

This House Renovation is a Full Time Job

Oh guys. No dramatics, it is, and I am over it. I already have 2 full time jobs, this 3rd is sucking the life out of me.

This is from today, on my finally-clean floors.

That’s a plumber and 2 contractors, and they were so good about it, taking off their shoes at 9am, but by 11am it was, “Keri we can’t work like this, your dream is dead”.

It’s probably good I had no idea what I was getting into when I bought this place in July, because O M G. 3 months in and I am, still, a squatter with a mortgage.

Out with the old hot water tank. It was from 1989.

All I want to do is drive this Subaru BRZ in my driveway.

Instead I am knee-deep in plumbing lessons and water heaters.

But I now have soft water! Do you even know how huge a deal this is? Non-homeowners: massive. Get ready to see a non-greasy-looking head of hair.

Finally ate at eight, then built a lab in my backyard for my Sylvania headlight test. That post, and conclusion, coming later this week.

kk I have email to do before bed, and it’s late so TTYT

And sorry again for…

This house stuff, the end’s in sight, and very soon it’s
back to regularly scheduled programming of
cars, security and as it should be.

You have a hat light too? So helpful.

So Much Running Around Today Yuck

IMG_7422.JPG Had to swap cars twice this week. My car yesterday wasn’t ready, because the auto journalist who was slated to return it didn’t, I have never done that in the 3 years I’ve been at this, and if you’re reading this, you owe me 200 km and 4 hours. IMG_7395.JPG But I now have my first Subaru WRX, and that’s awesome because non-car nerds: this is a good car, like a sleeper. So my style, and hello amazingly balanced on-ramps oh! I get torque vectoring now WOW why don’t more cars have this?! kk back to cleaning. My house. Again. By the time you get the ladder, I’ve finished the task. IMG_7424.JPG Had 2 trades here today, another 3 tomorrow, and I can’t ask them to remove their shoes just can’t, so hi welcome to the sandpit I own, the havoc this is wreaking on my mind oh M G TTYT IMG_7423.JPG
