Happy New Years, May All Your Dreams Come True

I mean that, as happy crappy as it sounds.

I’m pretty jinxy and methodical how I spend the first day of the year. I believe it sets the tone for the other 364 days.

(and THAT’S the benefit of blogging, ha).

While I believe this….

I do love the energy on the streets, because no matter where you are, it’s always excited and lit up.

This year I had a beer in a random bar, played a game of pool.

Then the actual January 1 I worked and did something I never do: spent time in nature.

Make sure to risk things this year and dream big.

Really big kay, that’s why it’s called a dream.

Let’s Get to Know, Brooks Alberta

Learned a lot, my brother is a great tour guide.

There are 120 different nationalities living here!

It’s an oil town; if you work in the on an oil rig, you’re a “rigger“.

I wish I had more time here, I want to go out to work with them, be a rigger for a day, HOW fun would that video be… my weak blogging arms failing me, getting coffee at the Red Basket at 5am, seeing oil up close gushing around.

This is Canada’s Desert… like, it rained twice this summer.

The sky is HUGE, it’s hard to explain, and it doesn’t translate in photo.

That’s the Brooks Aquaduct, built to water the fields in the 1910s… of concrete?!!

The new way, that machine, drives up and down the fields and you can control it with your iPhone.

During the tour my brother and I turned into ghosts.

Been playing lots of pool, my favourite spot is The Legion. I almost beat Ron there… SO close I sewered on the 8 UGH.

The bars are in hotels here, and many also have liquor stores in them, it’s kinda hard to explain.

The two main bars.

The people here are genuinely nice. Not happy crappy nice, genuine; then they’ll give you a shot or two, so Canadian I love it.

Pete took me to Brooks Animal Protection Society, where he volunteers. Special place, and heartbreaking, too. That’s his story he wrote about adopting his cat.

My lovely hosts!

And the tour will end of course the city’s very best radio station, 101.1 The ONE Brooks.

Where I messed up the song introduction.

Thanks for a great time Brooks, I’ll be sticking around for your giant Boxing Day party next year!

Nice to Meet You, Brooks

I’m Keri, Pete’s sister.

I’m the one screwing up on air here, sorry Pete!

I’ve been blogging and making videos since 2007… you can sit down and watch me for 8 edited hours, ha.

Meet me in some of my videos.

Pete and I are both car nuts and love driving.

I had a show for 3 years celebrating Canada. I covered the Olympics for Sun Media, was CBC’s inaugural made-for-web show, it was awesome.

But maybe my favourite episode was when… I talked my way onto a warship.

Exploring the Canadian Navy

I like this simple one, too.

Pete and I are also love playing pool, and we’re ridiculously competitive.

Find me fastest on Twitter @KeriBlog, and sorry about my messy blogs, I just finished rebuilding them.

See you around town this week, Brooks, if you see us yell hi!

First Cycling Race of the Season

Sunday it was off to Calabogie Motorsports Track with my team for 2011’s first OCA race.

The boys did great, way to go fellas!

And just like both years past (this is my 3rd season having a team under my Canadian Explorer brand) I underdressed and had to wear Nate’s clothes.  The large arrow above is pointing at Nate.

I have there carbon fiber knuckles, ha.

Last year I stood all zipped up like that for an entire lap, laughing my head off inside the zipper yelling, “this is how I cheer!“.
