DefCon Badges are Worth Keeping

Human badge on the left, speaker badge on the right.

Admission is cash only, no information is exchanged, and there is no preferential treatment, you have to wait in a line of thousands. Then you receive a badge designated “human”.

This is my press badge. I did have to register for that, after passing through a door marked “non-human”.

Each year the badge is different, there’s an anticipation about it and the complex puzzle game competition starring the badge. Neat, eh?! The badge is a game.

They are functioning circuit boards, and came with pieces to solder on, so you could hook up to a monitor and explore around, plus they interacted with one another, which were all pieces of the puzzle… read a better description at Wired.

Interesting the Egyptian theme carried on, it was on last year’s badge.

Polar opposite eh, a disc of metal. I wore two last year (human and press), so I clank-clanked everywhere I went.

The Theme of Today Was Cars

Returned the Navigator. It lived up to it’s name, it’s “A Navigator”: all eye-balls are on. The moving running-boards really add to the drama. Rather than drive, I’d like to arrive in one… remember my Royals Royce opinion? Same thing.

I’ll do a proper review over on KeriOnCars.com.

That blog is taking shape. Needs heavy polishing still. The tough part is done, though: the content creation, and the base structure is built.

Last Canadian Tire run tonight in the MKT; I fit my new fake-grass 8×6 rug inside without putting the seats down.

Now I’m going to sit down on it, and put my feet up like this.

My patio area’s looking pretty good, eh.

The other theme of today was clean/move/organzie all day too, got back on top of what I call “Life Admin”, but I don’t feel like blogging about that.

But I _am_ close, SO close, to being fully moved in-done-please-I-just-want-to-sit-still-and-make-videos.

I’m Mobile Again YA Buddy

Boarded the GO train yesterday morning to Oakville. I like the train. Probably because I don’t have to take it everyday.

Destination was Ford Headquarters.

I walked in…hi hi I’m Keri, you have a car for me. Yes we do, here are the keys.

30 seconds later, this:

THAT is class.

The first place I drove was my beloved Cherry Beach.

And I am. It’s one of my favourite places in Toronto.

I have filmed so many videos there:

– Getting Sand
– No More Studio
– and more.

Being mobile is important, I designed my life around it, and when I was rendered car-less last year well, that was a big problem.

Seat heaters YES. Those will stay on the entire week.

And it came pre-programmed with all my favourite radio stations. How did they know?! :|

Now I’m Home in Toronto

Goodbye warm weather, hello ending to my ‘Avoiding Winter Tour 2012‘.

Last flight.

Since leaving Toronto January 1, I boarded 25 planes.

Proud of this.

I have internet on my phone again! It’s been 4 months since I could say that.

I was using the thing below. Which means I had to manage two devices, and the connection was not very reliable.

Every blog post had to be kicked online, no dramatics.

First meal back on Canadian soil.

Girl catchup, very important.

It’s ironic that it snowed a bit today… my first day back is Toronto’s first day of snow since February.

I picked up a Ford Fiesta today, I’m mobile again!!

The studio is done, it’s stuck in a garage in North Toronto. I’m going to have to jump it and take the back roads to the crushers. I suppose that will make a good video. Good for you, sad for me.

Pumped to be back, can’t wait to catch up when I see you.

Goodbye Canadian Penny

A few weeks ago our Finance Minister declared the penny dead. It’ll be phased out this year and cash payments will be rounded up or down to the nearest 5.

The penny was not at all pleased, and took to Twitter to voice it’s displeasure: @CDN_Penny.

It’s a cute account.

I have some penny theories…

1 – They need the copper for our electronics. Copper is used to build integrated circuits and printed circuit boards. It conducts electricity really well.

2 – More copper is needed to build places like this:

Ahahaha omg that is one very geeky joke.

3 – I always pick up pennies. Why?

Why Pick Up Pennies: it’s a life test… maybe you are all, “oh, I sure could use some extra bucks” and life is all, “alright then, here’s some money, this is a test”. And if you don’t pick them up, life shuts it down right then because life figures: if you don’t appreciate the little amount, what will you do with a larger one?

Regardless of all of that, what to do with your pennies? Give them to charity.

Donate a roll of pennies to your favourite charity, tweet a photo of you and your pennies, the name of your chosen cause, and the hashtag #ShowYourRoll. Then, you’ll be featured in their honour roll.
