5 Cars to Watch in 2014

Filmed at this year’s Canadian International Auto Show, check out these favourites if you’re shopping for a new car this year.

As they appear:

– 2014 Buick Regal GS
Jaguar anything
– Chevy’s MyLink infotainment system
– 2015 Nissan’s Micra
– 2015 Audi A3

Smells so good inside an auto show.

A $215,000 Snow Shower

It’s a 2014 Audi R8 V10 plus Coupé.

A 5.2 L engine, outputting 550 hp and 398 lbs-ft, 0 to 100km in 3.5 seconds, and a top speed of 319 km/h.

Driving is Motoring TV‘s Russ Bond, I’ve introduced you before.

We were at a Young Driver’s event on Sunday.

Paul Reid was there too, capturing better quality footage for Motoring, while I captured a nice photo of Paul.

Which I’m good at; ha Paul, that photo is still funny.

WiFi Hotspots are Coming to Cars

This year, our cars will be constantly connected to the internet.  It’s going to be HUGE.

By 2021, the auto industry will have have the highest revenue that’s connectivity-related.

It arrived last year via Audi, and Chevy is a front-runner, with 10 of their models to be offered with 4G and LTE connections by this 2014 summer.

Favourite line:

It will be interesting to see how the data will be priced, because using the rule of thumb that at YouTube video is 1MB per minute, we’d all be driving down the road just hemorrhaging money.

Remember my column about War Driving? I wonder how this will affect things like that. I also wonder about the security aspect of an always-connected car.  Remember, you are responsible for hotspot users.

Audi’s All-new 2015 A3 Sedan

Audi has made a bold move, and retired the vehicle that accounted for 20% of its total sales – the hatchback A3.

“This A3 is minimalistic elegance
with a hint of subtle aggression.”

I called this a “starter Audi”.

Because once you’ve become accustomed to the automaker’s simplicity and refined ride, it’s tough to leave the four rings family.

The screen disappears into the dash! I love that, because I don’t love screens.

I’ve accidentally attended a lot of launches for this car.

Left is the North American debut, at the LA Auto Show.  Right is its arrival to Canadian dealerships.

Below is the car’s world launch in Budapest, Hungary.

More about that trip here, and here’s a couple more videos – the castle, and me in the castle.

Handsome rim offerings.

I’d choose top left.

The engine is a 1.8L Direct Injection Turbo outputting 170 hp 199 lb.-ft.  Sadly, there is no manual transmission offering.

The engine.
