Don’t Want it Public? Don’t Post It

Above is me deleting a photo from my Picasa Google + photo account. See the asterisk?

“It may take 24 hours for this photo to be deleted”

And that’s Google; they have more servers than anyone. A smaller site might take longer. Plus, 24 hours in internet time is forEVER.

During that time, the photo could be crawled by bots, screen-capped, something like this could happen:

Years ago, my ‘Following on Twitter’ list backed up to my Blackberry, photos included.

What if your profile pic is online for that brief moment, where someone somewhere, backs up?

Maybe you’re thinking: a 2 KB photo is too small to matter.

It is small, but it’s enough.

If you’re on Twitter in Toronto (and beyond), I bet you could identify everyone above, with that 2 KB.

CADA Partners with Sun Media

I was sent to cover the new partnership between Sun Media and CADACanadian Automobile Dealers Association.

(read it online)

Very basically – if you own a new car dealership, you must be a member of CADA.

This was a big deal; this handshake marks the first time in CADA’s 71-year history, that the organization has an outlet to reach the public.

They’re excited to give 24hrs readers a behind-the-scenes look at dealerships!

That’s CADA CEO and president Rick Gauthier, and Sun Media’s Tony Lepera, senior national sales executive.

Aside:

It was a small auto section for the newspaper this week, so above, plus my column and a news piece I wrote, and tada…

… that’s me writing 75% of this week’s ‘Your Autonet.’

(when I picked up the paper Wednesday morning, I freaked.

Something like, “omg there’s another one, wait WOAH WHAT noooo YES omg and stomach and yesssss so into this printed thing…)

My First Embargo

(security aside: How to Edit a Photo for Uploading)

Friday morning, I went to a car company, for the unveiling of their 2013 model, representing Sun Media.  Both were a first.

Embargoes are very serious.

To keep the playing field even: the car travels across the country, auto journalists test and photo it, but no one can release anything until a specified date.

And this concludes talking about the embargo.
