I Predict the Trend ‘Minimalism’ is Coming

Remember a bit ago, when I said I’d “achieved a new level of Minimalism”… ?

This is it. Less less less.

I unlocked a new level of non-attachment.

Because if I removed that handful of documents *…

And my lanyard collection

And fridge collection

Tada!   It’d be tough to figure out who lives here.

It gets addictive, purging. Remember that time in 2011, when I gave away all my belongings in my “Emporium”? It’s escalated ever since.

However!

What do 2/3 of the above things have in common?  Ego.  Ego will get you busted you every time.

(of course my knapsack couldn’t be there, then game over. It’s my everything, as blogged)

I predict a Minimalism Trend will start soon, this spring.

I think everyone is sick of owning so much stuff, because that stuff needs a lot of care, time, maintaining, dusting, insuring, and really, never brought all the happiness it was supposed to.  Less is more is coming.

* that ‘handful of documents‘ are things I’m behind blogging, including 6 car reviews, sorry guys; and my ‘Talking with Trustwave’ security interview series from… October; I know, sorry guys.

An Autonet & Work Update

I’m now up to 5 articles / week – 3 news stories, my column, and a technical review like this.

(my review of the all-new Buick Encore)

I still get the biggest kick out of seeing my words in print, like: that’s all me I wrote all that. Sure I’ve written one million words here on my blog, but to hold it in your hand is a neat feeling.

Unfortunately that’s the only review I have a hard copy of, which is sad news for my fridge collection.

This week’s column (prints Wednesday) is about pedestrians, again.

My column prints with this headshot, which is so funny to me.

I took this photo with my phone, and sunglasses on you can’t tell it’s me, which amuses me endlessly.  Because finally after 5 years I finally publish my last name, and it’s accompanied with that photo ha.

My headshot online though, I feel opposite about; wow is it ever awkward. I didn’t actually look so helmety-and-awkward day of.

It’s just, I’ve never liked having my photo taken, and it really shows in the shot.

My boss Joe best sums up the photo.

I jacknifed when that came in.

But the good news is, so we’re switching again to a new content management system, so I can upload a new photo.

But the problem is, time and effort has been put into building that awkwardness into banners.

This is the best banner of all, check out my 468×60… and it’s animated

My disembodied head zooms around back and forth ahaha I’m laughing too ahard ot type…

Welcome to the Autonet newsletter, I’m Keri.

Click through on my helmet hair or weird neck, and let’s go read some car news awkwardly.

About those Pink Insurance Slips

(read it online here)

Favourite line:

Here’s the most important part: your pink slip must be the original.  It cannot be a photocopy.  So go ahead and leave it in your car; it’s of zero value to anyone other than you.

That photocopy fact is straight from the MoT, I went and asked.

Love the ending to this column.

While researching, I discovered something:

Ask me in real life I’ll tell you. It’s nothing super-secret, actually, it’s kind of amazingly obvious.

Lastly, HAHA my personal pink slip was printed in the paper. Security is relative.

For the first time, I don’t have a physical copy of this week’s column.  It’s been affecting me all day, my fridge collection was perfect.

If you see it this week, can you please rip it out and mail it to me.

Not sure what happened… our Auto section always runs on Wednesdays, but today it was just one page that’s it.  This was the top of the page, that’s my Civic review top right, but it printed weeks ago.  It was a confusing day.

Meet Some of My Autonet Team

It’s Joe Duarte! My editor (boss) (my blog post / Autonet bio)

He’s giving me a lift to Markham; I’m picking up a Honda Fit, and that week Joe had the 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera.

To read our reviews, click those links.

Because we’re all freelancers, we don’t really get together and hang out, so this trio of photos are rare.

Meet Dan Barron – long time auto journalist, Joe’s right hand guy, funny.

We’re at Test Fest, in Niagara Falls in October.

And last week, out of nowhere at a Christmas party, there was Jeff Voth, hi!

Another top Canadian auto journalist, has his pilot’s licence, and does these unique road trip pieces you’d like.

Here’s the rest of the team!

This is all new, our bios and headhsots went live last week.

Here’s my bio.

I feel meh about my headshot.

Could be worse. Could use some posing lessons. And makeup lessons, can’t get away with just mascara and lip-gloss anymore. Hair could have been worse. You don’t even know how much I hate having my photo taken.

Look how thick my fridge-article-collection is getting.
