A Fantastic Canadian Cottage Night

Daydreamed a night just like this, all summer.

Finished work Saturday and closed my laptop for a minute. Picked up a 2014 Mazda MX-5 AKA Miata, for the trip north.

Fun drive north to the windy-roads of the Muskokas, here’s the car post.

Oh Canada.

Even got to go on a boat ride.

Great day bled into great night.

Back in town to work Monday, to get a head start on the week.

Hope you had a good long weekend, summer’s over now, time to work.

The 2014 Mazda MX-5 GT Miata

The world’s best-selling 2-seater sports car.  Mazda MX-5 Miata

Starting at – $29,250
This one – $40,250

It’s a rear-wheel drive roadster. A 2.0L engine outputting 167 hp and 140 lb-ft. of torque, which is a lot for a car this light and small.

It’s so small like, I’m 5’2″ and it fit me well inside.  I am never taller than a car.

It wrapped right around me, everything my size, so rare.  But I’d really like to see a 6ft someone inside, I can’t picture it.

It also is one of the only cars with a power, convertible hard-top that doesn’t affect the trunk space.  Which I didn’t put down, because no sun for me ever.

Bottom left – that circle thing is the fuel cap release. That was me reading the manual at the gas station.

The styling hasn’t changed much in 20 years, eh.

I get it: an engine and gear shift nothing else, but, I’ve always had trouble getting past its tubular look.

Threw it around the winding Muskoka roads; ridiculously fun. Would have liked more than 24 hours with it.

Meet Autonet Teammate – Jacques Deshaies

On the Hyundai Santa Fe XL California trip, my driving partner was Autonet.ca teammate Jacques Deshaies.

He’s an auto journalist for 15 years, stars on the TV show “Guide de l’Auto”, and collaborates on both LCN and TVA (shows on a big Quebec TV channel).

learned a lot about doing this job while driving with him, and my photos for the paper are better than usual (he set them up). Also, I want your time management skills, Jacques ;)

He too loves to go fast, but the difference is he’s way way better at it.

Look at that back wheel.

He has his own race team in the CTCC – Canadian Touring Car Championship, and get this, is sponsored by Mazda Canada.  Good luck this season!

(Note – because the team is all freelancers, we don’t really hang out, so this is a rarity. I’ve now blogged 77% of the team, nice. Meet more of my team here)

I Designed the ‘Keri Eco Car

I’ve got an idea to make a gas-powered car achieve hybrid fuel consumption numbers….

I really believe a car like this would sell well. I am not alone in wanting a feature-free car.

Read in online at Autonet.ca.

Favourite line:

… remove all the stuff… couple this light-weigh car with a modern fuel efficient engine and ta-da – the result is a gas-powered vehicle that boasts fuel efficiency on par with a hybrid powertrain.

My last line was cut – I said this was the perfect vehicle for Mazda to make, because it is.

Interesting eh… how the Civic has almost doubled in weight since its debut, and a 2013 Lincoln Navigator weighs much more than than a giant 1970s Cadillac.

Where this column was published from.

I’m in the States here. I’m getting pretty good at keeping it all together and meeting deadlines while travelling, which is good.
