Debuted on MotoringTV Today

Motoring TV on TSN is Canada’s, and one of the world’s, longest-running TV shows – 27 seasons!

Watch the video on MotoringTV.com

Being edited on a big-boy system.

It’s just web though, to be clear, not TV.

Technically, it’s my 3rd video for them, I just never said anything.

There’s 2 more on the site: 1 about a Caravan charity project, and 1 when Kia sponsored a RIDE program awareness event back in the summer. I’m especially awkward in that one.

And that’s enough for today. Still shy.

I Type about 90 WPM

You?

It was hard to get a clear shot of the keyboard, without showing the screen.

Will try again one day, when I’m really in the zone.  Also, I’ve always wanted to host a good old fashioned typing competition, that’d be a fun afternoon.

VW’s All-new 1.8L Turbo in the 2014 Jetta

Driving in Napa Valley CA looks like this.

[another video: Driving Elation]

I was with Volkswagen, to test their all-new 1.8L engine, and the 2014 Jetta.

Plenty of kick, handles precise and direct, nice note.

2014 Volkswagen Jetta

1.8L TSI Turbo – 170 hp & 184 lb.ft

Note: to get the new 1.8L engine, you have to bump up to the 3rd trim level, Comfortline. The base 2.0L Jetta is starting at $14,990, the 1.8L Comfortline is +$7,000-ish, totalling about $22,000.

Do it, never mind the old 2.0L engine, spend the money with an art-of-long-view.  Here’s my full review on Autonet.ca.

NO SCREEN

Yes I’m yelling, it’s that rare. And that tipped me over: I’d buy this car, this model year. I’ll guess this will be one of the last times that a Jetta can be ordered without a screen.

Plus, the new 1.8L engine; VW’s ergonomic elegance; and an exterior styling that will wear well over time, because it too, is minimal. No GPS; barely any aids, with cruise control being the fanciest; and available in manual.

Then tada – this would be my car for the next 15 years. An great commuter between test vehicles, and a fun week-off car.  And I’d seriously consider the diesel.

It was maybe my best-test-day to date.

They had 50! cars lined up, more than half were manual, rare; and also rare was, there were more cars than journalists, so I was alone all day… no passenger time, no passenger.

Called this video, “Driving Elation”.

The Lincoln Motor Company’s Re-Invention

Non-car nerds: Over the last year, Lincoln re-invented themselves, starting by reverting to its original 1922 name, The Lincoln Motor Company.

The cars got a fresh new design, look & feel.  So did the website.

Les Clefs d’Or, the world’s premiere concierge service, was hired to re-train the entire sales staff, inside all the newly renovated dealerships.  What I like best about this re-invention, is the air of class they’re pumping in.

This MKZ was their first “tada! This is the new us” car.

The Lincoln MKZ Luxury Sedan
Starting at $37,460

Sharp, exacting lines, a very flat interior, a long roofline to a solid rear.

Huge panoramic roof, heated everything, LEDs, and all the driving aids, features and infotainment that’s expected in a luxury sedan.

Do you notice it?

Aside from that I forgot to wipe the screen, but notice what’s missing?

A gear shift.

Look to the right of the steering wheel, the buttons running down, those are Park, Drive, Neutral, I know!

The push button transmission is back!  Once in vogue back in 1960s, it’s here again.

Watch.

Neat eh.

The lack of gearbox beneath the shifter, is how the interior design is so clean and open.

There’s another fancy photo of this car, in my Auto Art Collection.

(Lincoln just launched their luxury SUV at the LA Auto Show, the Lincoln MKC)

Driving in a Roundabout

If you feel nervous: don’t be shy to put on your hazard lights and let the other drivers know you’re new to this.

Just remember…

The 1 Rule of a Roundabout:
never brake inside one

Read it online at Autonet.ca

Favourite line:

Remember there are hundreds of thousands of roundabouts being used in Europe right now, some 4 lanes wide, and there’s no way they’re all better drivers than you – you got this.

Turns out roundabouts are a touchy topic, 73 comments, not bad.

Below is a video of me driving inside a roundabout.

I’m driving a GMC 2500 HD Denali in the States. There’s a video over at Motoring TV.
