Can you Park Here or Not?

Nov 26 2015

I genuinely didn’t know what to do when parking in downtown Toronto recently.

Possible Outcomes:

– there is no No Parking sign, and that’s my Jeep parked directly behind the meter, it’s ok

– but this is a Canadian thing to do, take a moment to warn others of a ticket, staying could be a $50 mistake

– or is this a trick, to keep that space open and available, hmmm

Went with Canadians being Canadian, and moved.

Found at Peter & Adelaide West, here’s a map.

If you know the answer, please advise in the comments.

Parallel Parking – Me VS Machine

Feb 9 2015

I first tried a self-parking system about 3 years ago, thought it was neat but un-nerving, and I declared it too slow to be helpful.

3 years later – and coincidentally in another Ford Focus – I test the system again.

Test Results – the new system is slick, and now both the speed and quality of its parking is better than a human.

Read it online at Autonet.

Favourite line:

Still, though, I think that if you can’t parallel park, and are too scared to practice and improve, you should get off the road.

Sonar works similar to radar, and here’s how that works.

1/3 of Traffic is Caused by People Looking to Park

May 14 2014

Read it online at Autonet.

The average time spent looking for
a curb parking spot is 8 minutes.

Favourite line:

Cities need to find the sweet-spot price of curb parking. If the price is just right, about 1 of 8 spots will be vacant, reducing search time, and therefore congestion.

Backing up a 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD.

It’s a 6.6L V8 Turbo diesel, outputting 397-horsepower and wait for it… 765 lb-ft of torque come ON.

Blog posts about the truck are here.
