End of the Week Update

Hi hi – good weekend I’m sure.

Nothing earth shaking to report, quiet day today, slept in.  Errands, a little work, and did a cheap wardrobe refresh with some $10 dresses from Sirens. One of them is even not black.  Oh and I had the battery replaced in my car’s key fob, and the guy who did it had 2 thumbs woah.

kk here’s some photos from the week, talk to you Monday.

My old Canadian Explorer pin! It was on my friend’s bag when we met for dinner.

fake nice day.

It was at Canadian Tire’s spring media preview.

Jumped on their trampoline.

This is actually the Sound Academy.  The Docks.

My review of Chrysler’s 300 comes out next week.

Short review: big fan. Called it stately.

It rained shoes this week. A gift of fur-lined socks for my Hunters; winter footwear expanded ty k xo

Yesterday, I hit send on my last work email, 9:30, sat down to eat.

Cheers’d you.

Then went to blog, and couldn’t.

My first data block.

However, how this affects this Mon-Fri test I’m doing: my record is still stainless.  Bottom right is proof I made the deadline technically.

The problem was the data block from my service provider, which is interesting enough for its own post, coming Monday.

It's Time to Crush my Car

I spent a large chunk of last week, dealing with my car. It’s been in a friend’s extra parking space underground, in North York.

It hasn’t moved since December 30, 2011.

The electrical has been going for a long time. Half the windows don’t go down, I saw it arc once, blogged the problems before: The Studio Lives and Been Car-less for 2 Weeks Now.

Called CAA, who towed me to Canadian Tire.

It’s no longer a car, it’s now a money pit.

Came to terms with it Wednesday night.

Here’s an email I sent a friend, sums it up well.

This is the 10th car I’ve said goodbye to; it’s not that.

I sat inside, got chocked up.

Because look, so beautiful.

I’m not attached to much material stuff (remember when I gave away all my belongs last year), but this is making me sad.

I invented my show in here, “The Canadian Explorer”:
driving around celebrating Canada, my studio is my caaar

Here’s the theme song I wrote, sums it all up in 0:18.

3 years, 80 episodes, 1,000 good stories, and the best internet training ever – that’s where the attachment is coming from.

Oh well, back to the bottom line in my above email.

Stay tuned for a good crushing video.

Do You Have a Lanyard Collection, Too?

It’s the only thing hanging on any of my walls.

I wish I’d known I’d end up collecting these, I wish I’d saved more of them.  It took more lanyards than this to create this collection.

The one I lament the most is, ‘Internet World 2000 in NYC‘, ha.

Sometimes the blank ones were big ones.

Really like the badge below: a press pass for the 2011 BlackHat Security Briefings.

Last year in August, I flew to Vegas, and declared I’d founded a blog about online security.  It was one of the gutsier things I’ve done in a while.  Think about it… if it takes off and is effective, then the bad guys are all, “oh this blonde thing, our stuff doesn’t work so good anymore because of her, let’s put our efforts in her direction”.  Like that.

Another top ‘most proud of‘ – Sun Media shipped me out to cover the Olympics in video, and write a column for their paper, called ‘Social Keri‘ (had no input there).

It was 2010, and I was one of few out there who was self-contained; edit, shoot, social media, create story, blog, write, everything.

Found the missing LA Auto Show badge, along with my Sector Security Conference press pass.

It’s Indy Weekend

Honda kindly gave me VIP tickets for both days this year, oh ya let’s DO this.

I live downtown and love the deafening noise, l o v e it.  So in this vein, here’s an old episode from my ‘Canadian Explorer’ show:

Ep 27/80 Exploring a Race Car June 2009

Best. Thumbnail. EVER.

How anti-climactic there’s no actual footage of me racing, eh. It poured the whole day, my camera is not waterproof. Also, note 0:50 ;)

THE best part of the day, but not on video though, was when I spun out.

The track is covered in oil, the rain makes it slippery, and as I rounded a corner the car just started doing a 360 by itself.

Downshift, caught it, completed the 360 and kept driving. Started screaming with pride and joy. My natural reaction is fist pump, forgot the cabin is so tiny, smashed my fist straight up into the metal lip.

kk I’m off to the INDY! TTYL

Now THAT was a Canada Day Weekend

My first one off since 3 years! I’ve worked them all because… I was The Canadian Explorer.

And not gonna lie, the lack of pressure this weekend was fantastic.  I used to explain it like – this is likely how Santa feels on the 25th.

This weekend I did very Canadian things… I went to a BBQ, drank beer and laughed my guts out, watched the fireworks, spent time out of a city in nature, designed my weekend around traffic times, and put my feet up Sunday night on my porch.

Speaking of traffic, get THIS – I heard the traffic Sunday night into Toronto was backed up to…. Napanee O M G (that’s 200km-ish).

Did you know our Coat of Arms has a unicorn?! A UNICORN!

That’s our motto at the bottom, in Latin: A mari usque ad mare – From Sea to Sea

Of course I own one of these.

And lots of things like this:

I went to Ottawa in 2008.

A decade before I was also in Ottawa for Canada Day.

I’d borrowed this guy’s bike to get downtown, but he’d lost his bike lock key, and I had to drag it through the dense crowds.

So if you had your shins taken out by a pedal around this time, that would’ve been me and sorry about that.

To be clear, Episode #80 is … still undone.  Oh I know.  Guarenteed it bugs me more than it bugs you, it’s like this lead ball that hangs back left over my head always.  But.  It’s just……

I’ve sat down one thousand times to edit it, and I physically cannot. It’s my swan song.  It’s summing up 3 years of my life into 8 minutes.  It’s re-editing footage I’ve already spent tens of hours looking at.

I could use an editing helper.  I have it completely storyboarded, look.  My website needs a serious overhaul too, it’s just… to properly close up my show is a couple hundred hours I don’t have right now, it’s so daunting when I think about it.

Leave it with me, it WILL get done.  And I have a little celebration party coming together in my head for when it’s done, and you’re invited.

Viva las KeriCDN and The Canadian Explorer!
