This is the New Face of Audi

Nov 28 2014

It’s the Audi prologue.

(note: prologue is not capitalized)

It debuted at the 2014 LA Auto Show, and Audi remained one of the busiest booths till the end.

Ahh that wider grille, the whole front end just digs in harder eh,
accented with those narrow wedge headlights that most OEMs shy away from,
because they look too mean. So. Into. This.

That skinny 2-spoke steering wheel… and no screen!  Maybe it descends into the dash like their current models, but regardless it’s refreshing not to see a big, black hole in the dash.

***

Non-car nerds: this is a concept car, you can’t buy this yet. An automaker makes one to say “hey, we’re about to change up our look here, and it’s probably going to become like this.”

***

Blog tag = Audi

Ford Brings Back the Hard Buttons!

Nov 28 2014

Found on the new 2016 Ford Explorer.  It’s replacing a touch-based console.

This photo was taken during the SUV’s advance-reveal at the LA Auto Show.  When the announcement was made, the room cheered.

Welcome Back, Buttons and nice one, Ford.

***

Why I don’t like touch consoles:

Ideally these buttons can be used while your eyes remain on the road… so where’s the logic in using touch, a non-tactile interface which requires more looking? Haptic just makes it worse.

1st Time You’ve Ever Seen a Non-Blue Ford Oval

Nov 28 2014

Neat eh.

Found on the steering wheel, of the all-new Platinum trim, of the 2016 Explorer

It’s the 1st time in their 111 year history,
that Ford used a badge on a car that wasn’t blue.

What a MINI Used to Look Like

Nov 28 2014

I’ve not yet tested one, and am not very educated on this badge, but do know the other auto journalists seem to love it, and its handling, the end.

Spotted at the LA Auto Show.

Top 5 Favourite Things – 2014 LA Auto Show

Nov 27 2014

Wrote it for the paper, click here to read.

Top 5 List from the 2014 LA Auto Show

1 – Language used during the reveal presentations
2 – Jaguar F-TYPE now available in manual
3 – Chatting with the head designer of Ford & Lincoln
4 – Choking on that new-car-smell
5 – Chrysler’s all-new 300 Sedan

It’s 850+ words, which is rare, my stuff’s usually 400 words and rarely longer than 600. It was a great show.

Here’s more photos from the show. Click more to see.
