Was in the USA for 2 Weeks

Feb 8 2016

That’s why the blog has been dark.

And I can’t post “I’m travelling, sorry in advance the blog is on pause,” because might as well be, “the world’s cutest house is sitting empty.”

Still after all these years haven’t figured out a good solution, and always end up with an apology post like this :( I am sorry for real though.

Didn’t turn on my laptop once the entire trip… this job, it’s not like that.

It was an amazing trip!

4 States ~ 3,000 km ~ 20 cities ~ 7 hotels
~ 50 dealerships & body shops ~1,000 laughs

And several excellent outfits.

Above bottom left: 1 pair of 3″ boots for the entire 2 weeks ha.

My head feels heavy it’s so stuffed with information, it was 2 weeks of training, to get a real taste for what’s this job I just signed up for, and OMG really? Guys I won the job lottery.

A job can actually be this fun, plus profitable and ethical?… basically I go around keeping cars cosmetically beautiful… the new car smells has not left my life… automotive industry people are so fun #AutoForLife… one guy even arranged for me to do a fake cold call on a dealership!

“Hi hi I’m Keri, let’s talk about dents. And we do beautiful wheels, too.”

Every day was different, intense and awesome.  Seems sales is an early start (to which I’m still adjusting) then it’s go go GO full throttle, then full stop at 5pm.

A couple times by the day’s end I was so wide-eyed and keyed-up I’d have to go wander around Walgreens to decompress.

The States is invigorating eh, there’s this buzz in the air that’s not as prevalent in Canada.

Returned home Friday night amazingly over-stimulated, a puddle-version of myself.

Spent the weekend doing nothing with my brain… manual labour around the house, a night with a neighbour yell-laughing too loudly too late, a Super Bowl party, and jogging pants.

And arranged This Week’s Flowers.

Almost back to myself.

I have some equally action packed weeks ahead, but then as I settle into the routine of this job, a system for better blog updating will happen too. Leave it with me guys, on it.

Until then, check out these badges – Canadian dealers – you want these.

Instead of a terribly tacky plastic licence plate brackets, one of these; way more likely to be left affixed.

Why Canada Doesn’t always Get the Car

Jan 22 2015

Maybe you’ve fallen for a car only to discover the automaker doesn’t sell them in Canada. Why?

Bringing 1 car to 1 country can involve
modifying 1,500+ parts

Read it online at Autonet.

Favourite line:

Consumers would see only a few major changes Nissan made to the car, but behind the scenes over 1,500 parts had to be modified to accommodate our Canadian needs.

No More Dark Circles

Mar 16 2011

I love the road but it’s nice to be home.

The only plan I had was flights and the first night hotel booked. Wandered my way over to San Deigo collecting footage along the way and staying offline. Kinda living like in olden times.

I visited some stuff so I have some neat videos to edit during the next few weeks. Good stuff.

Was surprised there was so much green in the desert… I thought it’d only look like the desert in my previous post.

I cruised around in my rental with a cooler of Miller Lite, delicious. I’m used to driving standard and so I spaz out driving automatic; I always forget if I don’t hold down the brake pedal the car moves forward.

Stayed at an Indian reserve casino. You could smoke inside. I’d forgotten how horrible that is.

Of course I played Wheel of Fortune. Didn’t win. Remember where I was.

Stuff in the States really is bigger, eh; the cups, meals, signs, the everything.

For the first time in 2+ years I don’t have dark circles under my eyes. I’m going to make sure going forward I do this regularly, just stop and disappear. Turns out it’s good for me.

Plus this tweet by Mason has always stuck with me, and really, that’s how you know you should be paying attention to something… it repeats over and over in your head:

My First Vacation in Years

Mar 10 2011

Hi from way south in the States! Land of giant everything, styrofoam cups and real nice people.

I’m gone all week back Sunday and probably I should’ve posted something about my absence earlier but I’ve been so excited it never occurred to me, sorry.

I _was_ going to blog my trip but once down here I realized nah, this is a vacation, so no.

I can’t just shut it off though, I’ve still been documenting.

So next week I’ve got all kinds of stuff to tell you including why I love it here, descending into a missile silo, shooting an HK MP5 on auto, walking through a turn-style into Mexico, and whatever else happens to me.

TTYS
