Important to Note – Giant Vehicles Skew my Bias

Nov 2 2015

If you’re using my blog to research a new car, take the posts about massive vehicles with a grain of salt.

Why? In real life I’m the size of a troll doll, so getting to be the biggest thing around brings so much joy, which if I’m being real honest with you, probably puts a glossy sheen over things. I don’t totally lose my mind, it’s still impossible-to-impress me, but it’s like…

Know how a Vegas casino looks so close, but
it takes 20 minutes to walk to? Like that.

What happens: strolling across the parking lot, skip in my step as I approach, and keep approaching, haha I’m eye-level with the hood, oh this dichotomy does not get old, climb up, up OH YA I am now in charge of this massive machine, let’s GO.

List of Affected Vehicles:

– any massive SUV, like the Land Rover LR4 or Cadillac Escalade

– all Heavy Duty pickup trucks for sure

– giant vans, e.g. Sprinter sized and up

– and anything I have to jump into

Chevy Jump Truck

Still going to book giant SUVs though, I have to, they bring me so much happiness.

If there’s a Canyon in MotoringTV’s new Intro…

Oct 29 2015

… that’s me driving.

Stopped by the shoot with this week’s car, a 2016 GMC Canyon, okay guys what am I doing? Drive around being awesome? On it.

2016 GMC Canyon SLT 4WD Crew Cab

3.6 Litre V6
6-speed automatic transmission

305 horsepower
269 lb-ft of torque

Starting at $22,395 (2015 price)
This one $42,895

The Canyon is all-new this year, fully redesigned.

He’s on rollerblades at 40 km/h

Important Note: Reviewing pickup trucks is a specialized skill, which I don’t have. Trucks is like, it’s own separate world… spraying bed liners huh, not 100% sure on the definition of “crew cab” and what makes a good front recovery hook?

For proper pickup reviews, Jil McIntosh is your writer – here’s her blog, and her section at The Star.

I kept forgetting in a pickup there’s no weight behind me and accidentally fishtailing around. I like the rubberized steering wheel buttons, and it helped me junk the last pieces of the big renovation.

And like all GM vehicles, it can connect to the internet, allowing you to turn the dash into a WiFi 4G LTE Hotspot.

Lastly, you know my love of a big button knobs and no-fuss centre stack, and this is a great one.

While I haven’t driven the outgoing model, word around the water cooler is “woah what a refresh!”  Everyone’s into this all-new Canyon. Or the previous one was that much of a disaster, not sure guys.

Regardless, the 2016 is well-regarded.

Went to my 1st “Tractor Pull”

Sep 9 2015

Turns out it’s a competition using a modified pickup truck.

They pull an obscene amount of weight, which causes the added stack to spew a massive amount of smoke.

The truck pulls the trailer about 280 feet, then the crowd claps while getting washed with exhaust.

It was amazing and I’m going again.

Assume the position: trucker stance.

The hood and I are the same height.

So arty.

Dichotomy.
