Visiting Unionville is like Visiting Olden Times

When I picked up the 2013 Honda Accord in Markham on Monday, I decided to stop by Unionville.

Just north of the Toronto, it’s a fast, 25-minute highway drive from right downtown, easy.  Good destination if you want to escape the city for an afternoon lunch and walk.

This is Main Street, Unionville, which is 218 years old.

I know all this because I almost moved here last summer. I was disenchanted with the city, and this is the opposite of downtown.

I decided I was going to live above a rich person’s coach house, found a real estate agent, who found me a coach house, that’s how close I came.

Here’s the most interesting part of this area.

Back in the wild west days of the interent, laste ’90s early ’00s, just north of Unvionville around ‘Too Good Pond’, used to be a collection of people who were internet pioneers, and had their own, off-the-grid ISP.

Here’s the Unionville wiki, go, for an afternoon of olden times (that’d make a good tagline).

Friday Night Catchup Hi Hi

Sorry for missing the last update here.

It was a lot of in-real-life stuff this week, the stuff that keeps the online part going (except email, so much email).  It’s a tough balance sometimes, between – making the life happen, and blogging about it.  I’m at the point where I’m genuinely ready for an assistant.  But I don’t yet make enough to pay someone, and I don’t like free, so sigh.

There’s so much to do here at KeriBlog,   Like, the 2 most basic funtions of a website, search and comments, don’t work here.  How bad is that, SO bad. This entire site needs to be rebuilt, I don’t know how to find the time, do I shut it down for a week and do it?  My stomach physically hurts sometimes about it #That’sBlogging.  I have the theme picked out, and a skeleton built, but porting it over is serious and ugh kay I’m done, thanks.

Now I’ll embed a bunch of photos from this week, no time to format.  I’ll catch you up this weekend, I have two articles to finish first.

Have a great Friday night!

xo Keri

PS – this is my latest ” OCDing Out To” song.  Anything I’ve written in the past week, has been to this on repeat.

Only Manual Hybrid in Existence – the CRZ

Honda CR-Z
Manual version starts at $22,590

The dash controls are so compacted, I was able to show the entire dash, in one collage; rarely happens.

And I fit the backseat into the collage, too. Probably because it’s so small.

No literally; I’m a miniature person, and it’s squishy for me.

It’s great, because who wants passengers, anyway?

AJAC #TestFest 2013 and ‘Car of the Year’

Taken atop the Honda RV.

What is Test Fest?

Test Fest – over seventy of Canada’s top automotive writers meet to evaluate hundreds of new model vehicles over a four-day period.

Their purpose? Based on back-to-back comparative testing, select the “best new” vehicles in several categories as well as an overall Canadian Car of the Year and Truck of the Year. The testing program includes “real world” driving on public roads — where you, the consumer, drives.

Daily updates are provided that include photographs, interviews and editorial.

At the end of ‘TestFest’, the comparative test data generated by the journalist experts is posted to this web site for your use as a resource buying guide. -from the website.

I tested 3 cars.

Subaru BRZ

Dodge Dart

Mercedes-Benz B250

videod throughout the day, will edit this weekend.

‘Test Fest’ and ‘Car of the Year’ are hosted by AJACAuto Journalist Association of Canada. It’s Canada’s best auto journalists gathered together, AJAC is serious.  I’m not a member (yet), and was there during ‘Open Media Afternoon’, so I didn’t think I’d be attending the award ceremony.  But I lucked out!  But I didn’t have a change of clothes.

Here’s me before walking into a sea of cocktail attire. Remember, I’m the new kid.

There are 11 awards in total.

There’s not yet a list online of all the winners; go to my editor Joe’s Twitter, it’s all there.

The other acronym to know is COTY – Car of the Year.

Obviously Honda took one home, and YES Maki!

It looks good on you Ford, and Christine!

Congratulations GM, and Neil!  You were so pumped, it was awesome.

Then, dinner and the ‘29th Annual Automotive Journalism Awards‘.

Great seeing familiar faces, and same to the new ones I met!  Thanks for being welcoming to the new guy.
