Things I Found When Moving

Oct 13 2011

Highschool prom dress. Purchased at Value Village.

The best electronic organizer I’ve ever owned – a Palm V; it was aluminum and had a rechargeable battery.

I’ve had an electronic organizer for 22 years; this one was my first.

Terry Mullan was my favourite DJ way back when, Chicago acid house. Notice how his name is spelled differently on the tapes, analog times.

My teeth pre-braces, circa grade 11.

I wore these pants as part of my security guard uniform.  They’re 5.11 Tactical pants, and that’s funny.

I also wear 5.11s as winter boots, love them OH WAIT YES… I have the perfect photo of them from last week…..

I dropped my camera, and caught it in my boot, TADA.  Reflexes.

The Strombo Party was a Great Party

Sep 12 2011

Casie, Lauren and I attended George Stroumboulopoulos’s party, which was _the_ TIFF party that night.

It was held at ONE bar inside Hazelton Hotel in Yorkville, you can stay there tonight for $1000.

Here’s the red carpet.

We were photographed and interviewed here, while those people looked on.

Fortunately the girls got better photos than me, so I went and grabbed them.

Casie and our host, George.

Toronto’s four favourite blonde bloggers.

Behind me is Amber Mac, finally we met.  She does a great job, has a million internet shows, a book; she’s been killing it online for forever.

And that’s Sarah, who introduced herself as, “hey I’m the one that stalked you on Twitter that rainy night”, ha!  Because she did.

I was tucked into a dark doorway on Queen Street in a hat a rainy night weeks ago, and she tweeted she’d spotted me driving past.  Good spy skills, lady.  (here’s her blog post about tonight).

This photo was on CBC Live.

Did you know I was CBC’s ‘inaugural made-for-web show”?  Yup.

Bono showed up, Clive Owen, John Hamm. I didn’t see any of them. I heard a rumour Bono deploys “fake Bonos” around town as decoys, funny eh.

Click here to see photos of all the famous folk who showed.

A happy me skipping home.

Things From My Week

Sep 11 2011

My Acura TSX has been performing great, it’s has a hidden speed and zip, very me.

Of course I took it to Cherry Beach, you know I love that place.

Watch this guy front flip over an Acura.

Also.

I went to a Lomography party at the Queen Street store.

Lomography is a world-wide big trend happening right now… it’s analogue film photography. Think like in olden times… film, developing the film, view finders….

I really like the “one take one chance” aspect, I built the Canadian Explorer around that premise, but I don’t know about the developing the film part, and remember my rant?  About HD and Tape Editing It really picks up there at the end.

The cold is coming.

Man my hair looks great Brennen, I think this is your best one yet.

I need to clean my stove.

  1. my fanciest USB key, a Swarovski lock. See it in the sidebar on my other blog (soon)
  2. that’s what we’re going to solder when we go learn how to solder next week for Keri On Security
  3. my toothbrush/lipgloss everyday purse bag. It’s NellaBella, you’d like their stuff, made here in Toronto
  4. see that larger here
  5. a Pentium I wear as a pendant
  6. tiniest Big Mac ever
  7. my camera, an Olympus Stylus Tough – you can stand on it, it’s waterproof, 12 Mpx

Outfits from this week.

Outfit from Suzy photoshoot last weekend, which I can’t wait to show you, which I’m still not allowed to, sometime in October she said.

Here’s to a great Monday and start to your week! TTYS xo

Swarovski Makes a Blog Beautiful

Sep 9 2011

Did you know Swarovski family-owned-and-operated since 1895?  No wonder I’ve always liked them, I’m a big fan of the generations-of-success thing.

They were in a room at the Four Seasons, and you know how I feel about jewellery.

They were showcasing their Wings of Fantasy fall/winter line, as well as their couture collection, as in: all one of a kind, you can’t buy them, it’s their only stop in Canada, these were my favourite pieces:

I dedicate this animated gif to Allison.

A Girl in a Masonic Lodge VERY RARE

Aug 31 2011

Freemasonry is the oldest and largest world-wide fraternity, founded in the 1500s.  It relies heavily on symbolism derived from classical architecture. The 3 Main Tenents of Freemasonry are: Brotherly Love, Relief (help), and Truth.  You’re encouraged to keep your own religion, doesn’t matter.  There’s more than 6 million all-male members world wide (Grand Lodge of Ontario, Wiki)

That’s why this post is titled like that.

There’s over 600 Lodges in Ontario alone.  This is the East Toronto Masonic Temple, where they meet.

I’ve blogged about the Masons before, this is not a new fascination.

– their Canadian headquarters in Hamilton

– the Toronto Stock Exchange was founded in 1850 by 24 Masons

– one of the most detailed Masonic buildings in the world is the Manitoba Legislative Building

See the lightbulb top right?  It was the most asked about item in the room, and that was disappointing to hear.  Because the photos below, it’s rare to get to see this stuff.

Click here for a list of famous Freemasons, you’re going to be surprised at how many you know.

Discussing politics and religion is forbidden inside all Lodges, cool eh.

You know the Shriners?  That’s them, too.  Their hospitals treat any kid, regardless of  any relation to a Freemason, race, ethnicity, even if they can’t pay.

See the arrows?  Symbolism.  You start as a rough stone, and through study, giving and hard work, you elevate yourself to be like the smooth stone.

There are 33 levels to ascend, the 33rd is done at Rosslyn Chapel in Scotland.

Everything detail you see, colour, every single thing has a reason behind it, symboloism, a purpose.

I love it.

The Mason origins also come from one of my personal favourites, the Knights Templar.

The Knights Templar were the most skilled fighting force for 200 years during the Crusades and Middle Ages, and they did it all for charity.  They were officially endorsed by the Catholic Church, guarded roads, the public, and fortified things.

The Knights Templar also:

– innovated and established banking methods that are in use today

–  in 1307 the majority of all Knights were captured and burned at the stake on… Friday the 13th.  Some say that’s why it’s unlucky.

– built Rosslyn Chapel, one of my favourite places on Earth.  Look how beautiful.

Hope I’ve got this all right Masons, if not, please correct me in the comments. Last thing I want to do is spread mis-information, aiming for the opposite here.
