Put a Monk in a Race Car

Can’t concentrate? Can’t race.

Because really, all the tech, tires and money are for not if the driver drops their focus for one fast moment. Because that moment turns into seconds lost.

I’m speaking with Honda IndyCar driver James Hinchcliffe. He’d just coached me around the DDT at Mosport (watch here)

We talk about his mind while racing, how he stays hyper-focused for 2 straight hours. It’s an almost-meditative state, he says.

That’s why my idea to put a monk in a race car –
their concentration is outstanding.

Read it online at Autonet.

Favourite line:

If winning comes down to a driver’s level of concentration, how about putting a monk behind the wheel?  Trophies ahoy!

Thanks for taking the time James! Best of luck this season.

Watch James coach me around my first track time here.

Packed and Moved in 3 Hours

Here’s what my condo looked like before, above is after 45 minutes. The key to doing this quickly is to own very little, and keep it organized.

I’d received a surprise call, “Keri we have a van available early this evening” so I drove downtown and went into fast-forward mode.

Pro-packing tip: since I was unprepared, I had to locate a bunch of boxes quickly. Go to your closet Dollar Store and they’ll be happy for you to take them, it’s less recycling for them.

One last downtown selfie and out the door.

Why so fast?

Remember the week I picked up the keys to my new house? That was a Friday, and I’d had my laptops and phone wiped that Tuesday. Wednesday night I didn’t sleep at home.

Returned home Thursday, check the laptops logs, WTF the lid was opened at 12:47am? And a USB key inserted? It’s not a glitch, it’s a perfectly clean and updated computer. Hit the roof. This was bleeding into real life.

Put my computer and valuables on my back, grabbed a couple tshirts and never returned. Until this day I moved.

All belongings fit into a 2014 Ford Transit van.

So there you go, 3 hours total, it can be done.

Taking a Week Off

I have so much happening right I need the time. And it’s not fair to the events and manufacturers, because the posts this week would be weak, not getting the full attention they deserve.

Plus let’s be real here: if you’re buying a car this week and relying solely on new KeriBlog posts to choose, you’re going about it all wrong anyway (although I have now helped over 10+ people into cars to date, not bad eh. One even mailed me a handwritten thank you card and it made my month.)

Things will be status quo over at the paper though, if you’re missing my nonsense. Last weeks column even had a video:

“Put a Monk in a Race Car” – Autonet

Have to travel a bit this week, and get house things like mortgage papers in order, learn about insurance and get a bunch, and figure out where gas comes from and how much that costs.

Have a great last week of July! Here comes month 8/12, get off the screens and into the last bit of summer kay.

Oh and there’s a big meteor shower tonight!

TTY Monday, see you on Twiitter and FB till then xo

I Bought a House Today

Yup.

Signed my name with this ceremonial pen, 30 times at that!

There’s a lot more to it than I thought. Which is part of how I pulled it off from start to finish in 3 weeks – I had no clue what was involved when I started.

I’ll tell ya all about it soon, and the tricks I learned too, until then I’ll wish you a great Thursday Night, best night or the week.

Omg guys – I don’t even own a plant, now I have trees.
