Thoughts on Being a Paid Blogger

Jun 29 2011

The aforementioned tweet.

Thoughts?

Below is a collection of articles written recently, mostly by fellow bloggers, about the state of the industry.  These are the type of articles that started flooding the internet last week.

Send me any I missed, and I’ll link them up.

Casie Stewart – The Blog Days are Over Now, don’t get me wrong because there IS a difference

Mashable – How Social Media is Changing Paid, Earned and Owned Media

Zach Bussey – Bloggers and PR – The Spiral of Earned Media

Rebecca Levey – Someone’s Getting Paid, Why Aren’t You?

CC Chapman – Nice Guys Get Paid Too

Did You Know the Planets Aligned?

Jun 14 2011

I’m not being dramatic like, “ooooo the planets must’ve aligned, Billy, you’re on time”.

They physcially actually did.

In May 2011, six of them lined up, visible from Earth with a naked eye, look:

(image via BestSyndication.net)

Do you even know how rare this is?

For most of May they stayed in line along the path the sun travels each day.

Why is this so interesting?

Because this planet configuration was predicted by the Mayans to occur… December 21 2012.

Yup, the infamous 2012 theory.  Astronomers say no such alignment will occur next year.

Basically the Mayans were 19 months off in their calculations, but when considering they did them thousands of years ago, I’d call that pretty close.

Think this news is all fringe, and maybe you’re rolling your eyes?  Time Magazine wrote about it.

I’ll leave you with this:

My 2012 Prediction – Thought Controlled Computing Begins (Declared Feb 1 2011)

PS – Want more proof I’m not alone? InterXon, the world’s leader in thought-controlled computing (and a Canadian company), is a headline keynote at Canada’s largest media conference this week, the Banff World Media Festival.

700 MHz Is All The Rage

Jun 5 2011

Tuesday I attended the Canadian Telecom Summitt 2011 #CTS11… Canada’s leading and largest telecommunications industry event.

Media sits at the back.

There were big-name keynote speeches all day, heads of Telus, HP, Rogers, Microsoft, Bell and CRTC people.

This is how I learned we got a new Minister of Industry two weeks ago, Christian Paradis.

Congratulations on your new job! Please protect Canada.

Made some new friends both IRL and online during it, hi guys! Keep in touch.

The most interesting topic of today was the 700 MHz Spectrum.

You can’t just go around blasting signals haphazardly, where and whenever you wish.  Depending on what you’re doing, depends on which frequency you transmit/broadcast/communicate on.

Below shows (some) of the MHz spectrum and its allocations.  See the band where I added the text, flanked by ‘mobile’ and ‘broadcasting’?

That’s the 700 MHz band, and it’s soon up for sale.

(See the full diagram here)

It was once owned by the broadcasters, and was used to broadcast analog TV.

Now the government owns it, and is about to sell it.

The auction will take place late 2012.  The gentleman above is in charge of said auction.

It’s a powerful spectrum which can penetrate walls. This makes it ideal for broadband communication. It also has a great range and can travel long distances; one tower broadcasting 700 MHz can cover 20 miles.

Think of it like… it’s the Ferrari of spectrums.

Tweets and fun facts from today.

Many of the talks re-inforced my theory about how the future internet will be designed, I talk about it in my video, About UBB – Usage Based Billing, fast-forward to 0:31.

Then I invited myself to the stage.

And gave an impassioned speech.

While everyone was at lunch.

Hope You Had a Great Weekend, Too

May 15 2011

I ditched the city and went offline for 36 hours, it was fantastic.

Look it’s my BFF Suzy driving!

Tech note – left is a Blackberry 9780 photo, right is an iPhone 4.

So odd to be sitting in my passenger seat, the former studio, which I’ve been debating bringing back…

Went to a really fun party, happy birthday beautiful!

Sunday cleaning of course.

See, I wasn’t exaggerating about my candy filled purse, which got dumped into my candy drawer.

Nice to Meet You, RightSleeve

May 14 2011

We met Thursday night at your party where you’d also invited a bunch of my old Twitter friends AND gave me an umbrella as tall as I am, thank you!

Internet – RIGHTSLEEVE is “a promotional design agency”, the print your name on things. I pawed all their stuff, and you can feel good about trusting them to put your name on somthing; their level of quality will match yours.

I’d love to have KeriBlog everything. Specifically any of these car items, this toaster using my CDN Explorer logo, or a plain black hat with KeriBlog.com written in tiny letters subtlety. Everyone would want one of those.

I know you know these two!  Casie Stewart and Shawn Hawaii, who were continuing their ongoing hipster joke that they have a baby named Triangle ahahaha, that’s funny.

Bahaha, ya I did:

That’s Phil, Ben and RIGHTSLEEVE owner Mark doing the punching.

Always good seeing you Ben!  Dude – remember when you tasked me with writing 100 words on IPs, when I was training in writing 100 words, before I went to the Olympics and wrote 100 words daily for Vancouver 24 hours?

I just did, click here to read it.

I love when people pick me up when they hug me, Rannie did too outside, did you ever see that episode we did together? Hang on…. tada!

Exploring Canadian Blogging

I have a thing for this place, the RC Harris Water Treatment Plant.

Go if you can, it’s looks just like the video game Myst.
