The Caravan MiniVan Turned 30 Years Old

Dec 9 2013

Dodge celebrated by building a charity art project.

Together with the charity organization Canstruction®, the automaker built a life-sized replica of the 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan… out of cans.

That’s 30,000 cans of tuna, it took 10 hours, and it’s a world’s first.

The food was then donated to the Daily Bread Food Bank.

Those folding seats, the “Stow ‘N Go” seats, are exclusive to the Caravan, and deserve more screen time they’re that slick.

1/5 cars sold in Canada, is a Caravan.

And they’re built in Canada.

Sorry about the lighting Brad!

Filmed in the driver’s seat, in the middle of Dundas Square, kinda neat.

Dodge Grand Caravan – starting at $19,895

Non-car nerds: Chrysler basically invented the MiniVan vehicle, this Grand Caravan.

I like MiniVans, and have a Caravan booked early in the new year.

Bitcoins Used to Buy a Tesla

Dec 9 2013

Wrote about this at Autonet today:

In the world’s first and largest transaction of its kind, a completely electronic currency was used to buy a completely electric car.

What is Bitcoin? It’s the world’s first de-centralized, online-only currency, first introduced in 2009. Notable vendors accepting this electronic-only currency include WordPress and OkCupid, but Bitcoins can also be used to purchase real-world goods, like electronics or meals at restaurants. (Autonet)

It was interesting to be a part of this news story.

I saw the news break Friday afternoon, then me and a lot of other journalists, reported the story this Monday morning, but then later this afternoon, CNBC spoke with the general manager of the dealership, and it wasn’t entirely correct.

So I added this update to the article:

UPDATE – 10pm

Today, CNBC’s Squawk on the Street talked to Pietro Frigerio, general manager of the dealership.

Mr. Frigerio said, “I never touched bit coins.”  The bitcoins were first exchanged for US dollars, and then wired to the dealership’s account.

That’s not as dramatic for sure.

Haven’t had to add an update like that before.  That’s the interesting part…  sure I was first to market , but the facts were wrong, but if I had waited till my Wednesday news slot, this story would be considered stale, and me slow on the news.

Cell Phone Carriers are like Automakers

Dec 8 2013

It seems like there’s lots of cell phone carriers, but not really.

Much like auto manufactures, each carrier has:
a higher-end brand (Lincoln)
 & a value brand (Ford)

I made a chart.

Best Buy Mobile offers all of them, plus all the phones, a one-stop-mobile shop.

(this post has been brought to you by Best Buy)

How Wind Detaches Itself is Important

Dec 8 2013

I thought once the wind got to the rear of the car, it just broke off and went on its way, who cares.

Nope.

<

The rear of a car is designed to detach the wind resistance very precisely. Otherwise, the wind creates drag, or it gets sucked back under the car, pulling the car in the opposite direction.

The formula is:

Top speed = horsepower / wind resistance
