dermaglow and the Lightbox and NO Scent

Jun 5 2011

dermaglow is a decade-old Canadian company that produces skin care products really well.

Last week they threw a party to launch their latest line, and I helped celebrate!  It was a sunny afternoon, at the top of the TIFF Lightbox, look how beautiful.

Hiya Casie!

Click here to read her post, especially the meta part, ahaha oh I love meta.

I’d love some, thanks. And it was SO good.

When have you ever heard me talk about or recommend food here…. never, exactly, THAT good. Oliver & Bonacini.

I accidentally matched the decor.

Meet Solen, Product Development Manager, the lady on the right. Her accent is so pretty, and during her presentation the Twitter stream was filled with such comments. There’s a lot of science in action; they’re inserting molecules into other ones, so the inside ones don’t touch your skin. I know.

Did you know some companies add wax? Dermoglow has no parabens, articial frangrances, dye or soap.

Yup NO SMELL. You know how I feel about smells.

Now meet founder Jerry Smith, welcome to my bloooog.

60% of their products have anti-aging agents, and they have SPF products, so important people please: remember to wear a lot of sunscreen this summer.

This is their The Essential Line – 6 core items formulated as the first step in skincare. 4 cleansers and 2 moisturizers, 3 of which ought to cover you just fine… 1 exfoliator, 1 cleanser, 1 moisturizer ($45).

I ran a test this weekend, just their stuff. Conclusion: my skin is happier, bouncier, if you will. And my skin is sensitiiiive, I have some bad stories.

Coming soon is their newly re-designed packaging, keep your eyes peeled around early fall. Minimal, white and blue, I like it ;)

700 MHz Is All The Rage

Jun 5 2011

Tuesday I attended the Canadian Telecom Summitt 2011 #CTS11… Canada’s leading and largest telecommunications industry event.

Media sits at the back.

There were big-name keynote speeches all day, heads of Telus, HP, Rogers, Microsoft, Bell and CRTC people.

This is how I learned we got a new Minister of Industry two weeks ago, Christian Paradis.

Congratulations on your new job! Please protect Canada.

Made some new friends both IRL and online during it, hi guys! Keep in touch.

The most interesting topic of today was the 700 MHz Spectrum.

You can’t just go around blasting signals haphazardly, where and whenever you wish.  Depending on what you’re doing, depends on which frequency you transmit/broadcast/communicate on.

Below shows (some) of the MHz spectrum and its allocations.  See the band where I added the text, flanked by ‘mobile’ and ‘broadcasting’?

That’s the 700 MHz band, and it’s soon up for sale.

(See the full diagram here)

It was once owned by the broadcasters, and was used to broadcast analog TV.

Now the government owns it, and is about to sell it.

The auction will take place late 2012.  The gentleman above is in charge of said auction.

It’s a powerful spectrum which can penetrate walls. This makes it ideal for broadband communication. It also has a great range and can travel long distances; one tower broadcasting 700 MHz can cover 20 miles.

Think of it like… it’s the Ferrari of spectrums.

Tweets and fun facts from today.

Many of the talks re-inforced my theory about how the future internet will be designed, I talk about it in my video, About UBB – Usage Based Billing, fast-forward to 0:31.

Then I invited myself to the stage.

And gave an impassioned speech.

While everyone was at lunch.

Parties Parties

Jun 5 2011

Love ’em!

I didn’t take many photos, too busy having fun. Then when I did they were fuzzy oops.

I was out with these lovlies, Casie Stewart, It’s Brown Barbie and Shannon.

We looked so good walking down the street, strangers took photos, ha. Too bad I don’t have one to insert here.

Do you Yelp? They do a good job. Yelp – Real People write real reviews of your local businesses.

Best ad spec of the party – a glittery bouncy ball.

We were all so hungry, moved off to our next stop, burst through the door expecting a bar scene, and instead found this:

How great is that?!

A lovely dinner, served with Molson’s newsest addition – Sublime, a lime infused 67-calorie beer. Nice and light, not limey.

It's One of Those Books

Jun 4 2011

Sorry I know, I said I’d update by now but it’s not totally my fault…

It’s a lethal combo – a rainy cold Saturday and one of _those_ books that must be inhaled, because that’s the only way to read it. If you are also a reader, you know what I mean.

I should be doing all sorts of things all over, instead I’m sherking and screening stuff, screwing my schedule. But such a book hasn’t happened to me in months, so I don’t feel that badly ;)

I’ll have finished it by tomorrow and will bloooog, but have a great Saturday night I have to go now! They were just arrested when they de-boarded the train in Europe :O

Oh it’s: “A Gentleman’s Game” by Greg Rucka

Bye! Xo
